This gives a brief overview of FAPE- Free appropriate public education, Appropriate evaluation processes, Individual Education Plans, Least Restrictive Environments ( what are they), Parent and student participation in the decision-making process, and Procedural due process. This give students, parents, educators, and those involves in the IEP process a very good brief summary of what is available to students and parents.

This is a six-step process that takes the student from referral to placement. The steps are Child Referral- this may be formal or informal. It may come from the parents or the LEA( school). Evaluation process- student is given a battery of multidisciplinary test, this should occur once every three years. Eligibility and Classification- the IEP team meets and evaluates the diagnostic date and determines eligibility, and disability classification. IEP meeting- occurs yearly, parents must be included, parents can request IEP team meeting as needed to aid in student success. Placement- student is placed in the LRE, parents must sign off on this placement. On-going evaluation team will meet yearly, Teacher will do evaluations to ensure that IEP goals are being meet.
Remember the team always includes the parents!
