The teacher is a leader who engages collaboratively with learners, families, colleagues and community members to build a shared vision and supportive culture focused on student growth and success.
The classroom and school environment are enhanced through student and faculty interaction.
At Lehi Jr. we have divided our students into 10 houses. Each house has about 100 students and four teachers. My house is the Allombo House. Our motto is that we are friendly. We wear bright green house shirts each Friday(every house has a motto and a color) and meet in small groups. I have 22 students that are in my small group that I am in charge of each week. Every four weeks we have a different motto that we focus on and that we have lessons and activities that reinforce that character skill. We do a service both in our school and in the community. Providing service outside the school environment gives students and teachers the chance to build relationships of trust as we serve others. Fostering school and house spirit that has lead to a friendly and supportive school and classroom environment. Mrs. Eynon's and I are two of the four faculty advisors for Allombo House. We have had great service outings to elementary school in the district, we have cleaned our school grounds, parks in the area, and helped to beautify out school. We do a day of serve each month as a whole school. We will be assembling kits on the 28th of March as we have another school wide day of service.. We assembled kits on the 28th of March for our school wide day of service. It was a great experience and we did about 260 Oral Hygiene Kits, 166 first aid kits, 90 Literacy kits, collected 630 books and about 2000 pencils. We made 160 boxed lunches for the Road Home Shelter. We wrote over 500 cards to the patients at Primary Children's Hospital. It was great to see our school engaged in doing a great work of service.
Students collected: PENS, PENCILS, COLORED PENCILS, NOTEBOOKS, READING BOOKS = K - 12 Medical/Oral Hygiene kits -Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Floss, Antiseptic Wipes, Antiseptic Ointment, Gauze (4x4 & 2x2), Medical Tape, Chapstick, Hand Sanitizer. This was a chance for students to make a difference in the lives of young people in Ghana. They were ready to work at putting the kits together, and make sure that others had their basic needs meet. In talking to my house small group about toothpaste, they couldn't believe that it was not readily available to everyone in the world. We had a great discussion about this idea that we have so much here in Utah, and we take for granted that others don't have the same things that we do. It was a great day of service and time well spent. |
