Timeline of Jewish Persecution Assignment
Giving students the opportunity to be creative in showing what they had learned about Jewish persecution from 1933-1945, students created an Illustrated timeline. This helped students to be engaged in the topic, to reach deeper and to make connections to the text that helped me to see that students had a deeper understanding of this topic. This was a good way to engage the diverse learning styles and needs of the students. |

Content Reading, Writing and Listening
Using comprehension checks at the end of each chapter ensured that students were making connections within the text that aided them in comprehending Prisoner B-3087, its content, characters, and its connection to the broader world around them. These provided the opportunity for students to reflect upon the text and the characters. We constantly were talking about our essential question,"How do characters change over the course of a text?" This question and the chapter reviews helped to open dialogue in the classroom and for students to articulate their thoughts, and ideas about the book, its characters and its content. As we listened to the audiobook and followed along in our text, students were totally engaged in this book. Listening to an audiobook played through the classroom sound system engaged even those students who don't like to read. This technology gave me the opportunity to meet the diverse needs of my students. |
