Disclosure Document In creating a disclosure document I wanted to provided students with an overview of the roles of the students, teacher and where as a class we heading in our learning. It provides a purpose of the 8th grade curriculum, sets up policies and procedures, outlines participation expectation, late work policies and grading policies. Having only four main rules:

Rules Review- 4th Term
In creating a better learning environment in my classroom, I did and rules and expectation review. I made a rule review assessment that would tell me what my students knew about the rules and expectations of the classroom. Asking students to reflect upon their learning experience in the classroom gave me valuable insight into what students felt about what it meant to be engaged, prepared, responsible, and respectful. I needed to make some changes to the bathroom use policy, the electronic use policy, and I needed to make changes to the consequences for being off-task. This was a change that I felt needed to occur and this assessment gave me valuable information on what students were thinking and what they felt were fair policies within the classroom. Potty Passes:
Giving students potty passes has decreased the number of students that leave my room while instruction is happening. I have had 8 potty passes use since 4th term started on March 17, 2017. Unused potty passes can be turned in for extra credit at the end of the term. Positive Changes
I have seen great strides in the way my classroom environment has changed since reviewing rules and creating stronger expectations. Taking the time to create a dialogue with students helped me to make changes that aided in creating a climate of shared responsibility, respect, and cooperation in the classroom. |
Participation Points
My mentor teacher made the suggestion to give daily participation points. Adding this to my classroom management and giving my students daily participation points of 3 points each class period, has changed the dynamics of my classroom. Students know that they get 3 points per day, and that I will tell students that they are going to lose points if their behavior doesn’t change. It had been effective in increasing on-task behavior and participation in my classroom. |
