Seeing my classroom for the first time. I was invited to the end of the year lunch on 27 May, 2016. It was a bit overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. I walked over to the English Satellite (trailer) and saw my room. It was room 311. I was excited to see the blank walls, student desks and empty bookshelves.
Back to school night 18 August, 2016 I am so nervous to meet my students and their parents. I have everything ready. My walls are decorated. the desks are arranged, their are four bookshelves full of books. I played some Jazz music in the background, if only to help me be calm. I meet 65 of my 190 students. I shared the books we would be reading, our reading goals and expressed how excited I was to have them in my classroom.
7th Grade Day 19 August, 2016 Friday All the teachers stood out front and formed a tunnel for all the 7th grade students to walk through. We had music blaring and teachers were fist bumping and high-fiving students as they arrived to school today. The 7th graders were being sorted into houses. It was a fun day. I meet my A3 class of Reading Skills students. It was a awesome day. I can't hardly believe that I am a teacher.
8th Grade Day 22 August 2016 Monday Today we welcomed the 8th graders with our teacher tunnel of welcome back to school. They were sorted into houses and then we had all 5 of my classes for about 20 minutes today. I introduced myself. Started learning names and faces. What an exciting day!
28 and 29 September 2016 Parent Teacher Conferences I had about 40 parents come into night to visit with me about their students. many of the brought their children. Which I loved. It gave me the opportunity to ask the student how they feel they are doing and to address any concerns. One parent and student that stood out to me was the BC family. Her dad is a guard at the prison. He came all in his uniform. I asked B to share her work with her dad. She was able to show her progress and to show that she was being successful not in my class but her other classes as well. She demonstrated the ability to work and make progress. It was a good conference and I felt that with this parent he walked away feeling that his daughter was being successful.
October 2016 Houses are going well. Student in Allombo just went for our first service hours to Sego Lily Elementary. It was fun seeing students outside of the classroom. They read with students and helped them study of spelling test. It was a good experience today as I watched my students help younger students.
